Great Greens Give-Away Saturday the 17th, 1-3 pm

Hello all,

The 2012 Fourth Annual Great Greens Give-Away Saturday is this Saturday, MARCH 17th, 1-3 PM.

I'm sure that you have no problem believing that our greenhouses are BUSTING at the seams right now with gorgeous greens. The amazingly springy weather that we've been enjoying has made the greens go bonkers!! This year especially the greenhouses are a verdant harbinger of spring, with their earthy rich smells, warm soil, and huge growth. Come on out to the farm on Saturday, March 17th for the 4th annual GREAT GREENS GIVE AWAY from 1-3 pm and get some of that green action! Sign up for a share and, armed with a pair of scissors ( bring your own shears or scissors if you have them), head on into one of the greenhouses and harvest one bursting bag of greens. If greens aren't your style, you can fill part or all of your bag with winter roots (carrots, potatoes, beets, rutabagas, celeriac, turnips, etc). We will also have produce for sale. Bring a friend or two - this event is definitely open to the public.

If you have already signed up for your share before the 17th rolls around, you get two bags to fill! (So, sign up NOW and then come on out to the farm on the 17th and cash in!) Wow. Talk about an incentive. Yes, we are trying to get you to sign up before the event.

To clarify, if you sign up for a share at the event, you get one bag of produce. If you sign up by Friday the 16th at the latest, you get 2 bags of produce.

Early sign-ups help us with cash flow and our general peace of mind. This is the season for all of us CSA farmers to bite our nails and wonder whether anyone is actually going to sign up again this year. So come on out and ease our minds and get some goodies in the process!

Every year a couple of CSA members come and help us with the Greens Give-Away. If you would like to come and help us out, email me! We'd love the help, and it's fun.

(Read this part in a fast quiet voice.) This is a one-time event, if you miss it there are no make-ups. You may send
a friend in your stead.

Below is information on other CSAs that will be here this summer, as well as a list of wellness providers that are offering discounts to Sweet Land members.

OTHER CSAS HERE AT SWEET LAND THIS SEASON

This year, due to very popular demand, we are hosting a bunch of other CSAs here at the farm. CSA members seem to like this one stop shopping aspect, and so do we. What a plethora of local producers we have here in the Finger Lakes! Support them, it makes our home that much richer. The following list includes all of the CSAs that will be here this season. They may or may not be at the Greens Give-Away to talk about their products.

Wide Awake Bakery - Bread - A fantastic local bakery that uses all locally grown, organic flour in their bread. The bread is mind blowingly good. Their share will follow the dates of our farm share and costs $120 ($5/week for 1 loaf of bread). You don't have to wait for our CSA to begin - they are selling shares right now and have many distribution sites. Go to www.wideawakebakery.com for details and to join.

Hemlock Grove CSA - Apples - Remember those delicious organic apples and cider here last year? We'll they're coming again in the fall. We are very proud to have Hemlock Grove here because they are one of the only sources of certified organic apples around these parts. They will start selling shares sometime in the summer.

The Piggery - "The Piggery is excited to distribute fresh, sustainably pastured meat CSA style shares again this season at the Sweet Land Farm.
This is the fourth year we've offered farm fresh meat shares locally and we're excited to report that we've developed a better way to do it. Folks interested in our Fresh Meat Share program can join our online buying club for free. Once you've joined, you'll receive a weekly email inviting you to place an order to pick up at the following week's CSA distribution. No more getting cuts of meat you're not interested in, you'll get exactly the fresh (never frozen) meats you want and support a local pastured farm & butcher shop.
To join, simply follow this link and sign up: http://www.wholeshare.com/join/1199
More details and specifics to come in the coming weeks! Please feel free to call one of the Piggery farmers directly at 607-342-2245 with any questions."

Stone Soup Supper Club - http://www.stonesoupsupperclub.com/ " Stone Soup Supper Club is a community supported kitchen (CSK) in Ithaca, NY. We offer a simple, delicious, and budget-friendly connection to Ithaca’s local food movement by transforming local, farm-fresh, organic ingredients into deliciously wholesome, seasonally satisfying soups and stewsand delivering them to your door every week."

The Crooked Carrot - http://www.crookedcarrotcsk.com/ "We are Crooked Carrot, Ithaca's first Community Supported Kitchen (CSK). We produce a variety of healthy, locally-sourced foods to help you transform seasonal produce into delicious, convenient meals. Crooked Carrot works similarly to a CSA: CSK members receive a "share" of food every other week. For more information please visit our About section"

So there it is - a bunch of CSAs here at Sweet Land. I hope that this sounds fun. I still am surprised by the wealth of fabulous food options we have in this area. We are lucky.
