Mid March at Sweet Land Farm

Here at Sweet Land Farm the seeding greenhouse has been fired up for about 5 days. We have beautiful snow drops and winter aconite blooming under our seedling benches. A real sign of spring!!
We have seeded leeks, onions, parsley, celery, celeriac, chard, passive solar tunnel peppers and tomatoes, as well as calendula and yarrow for the u-pick flower garden. We'll see little green sprouts soon! Later this week I'll seed the first of 10 generations of head lettuce.
Last weekend we bought a manure spreader and mulch layer at a farm auction in Penn Yan. We'll be headed off to another auction this weekend for more equipment - there are many things to buy when you are setting up a vegetable farm!
Til next time this is Evangeline signing off. Think Spring.
